Though 2021 was no where near as bad as 2020, it definitely was no walk in the park. To end the year with an air of positivity, I decided to come up with 21 good things that happened and make record of them. So here it is-- 21 good things that happened in 2021.
1. We Explored Georgia
In April, DJ and I were able to visit some of our favorite people-- DJ's aunt and uncle who live in Georgia. We celebrated the Easter holiday with them, and enjoyed numerous hiking areas around the area. Towards the end of our trip, we visited beautiful Savannah, where we enjoyed some delicious food and enjoyed the rich history of the city.
2. We Welcomed the Cutest Little Ones
3. We Bought a House
DJ bought our first home here in little ol' Kokomo! It's a beautiful three bedroom with good bones for all the renovations I would like to make, a fenced in backyard for our pups to play in, and not one, but TWO fireplaces to help us stay cozy in the winters.
4. I Started Therapy
5. I Rekindled My Passion for Reading
Growing up, I loved to read. But when I moved to college, it felt like I just didn't have the time and I sort of just... stopped. This year, I somehow was able to find this love for reading again. It actually started on our trip down to Georgia, when DJ and I decided to start listening to the Harry Potter series on audiobook. I went to listen to more books, but quickly realized that I am not an audiobook person. This caused me to find the book I had been so excited to listen to, buy it, and read it.
At the beginning of the new year, I made a goal of 12 books for the year, because I always knew I wanted to get back into reading. With the help of the ReadMo app, I was able to track this goal. I am very proud (and a little astonished) to say that I not only completed this goal, but exceeded it by 72. That's right. I read 84 books this year.
6. DJ Started Coaching High School Football
Football is one of DJ's greatest passions in life. Through his job, he was able to get a coaching position at one of our local high schools, and help this school get their first win in almost four years. Next year, DJ will be coaching at another one of our local high schools, alongside one of our friends.
7. We Met Some Great New Friends
8. My Brother-in-Law Started Art School
My oldest brother-in-law decided to follow his passion and was accepted into IUPUI's Herron School of Art. I could not be more proud of him, as he's struggled to really figure out what he wants to do in life. He has decided on becoming an art teacher, and I can't wait to see how he grows during the process.
9. I Visited Nashville
In September, I was able to celebrate my bachelorette weekend in Music City. Our weekend included an evening at Pinewood Social, bar hopping on Division and Broadway, an afternoon on a Tiki boat, and exploring great food at one of the city's finest food halls.
10. We Had Our Wedding
When COVID-19 hit, we had to postpone our wedding. Then, we hit a few bumps in the road, making us have to delay our wedding a whole year after we had initially planned. Now, this didn't stop us-- no, we eloped during the height of quarantine. However, we still wanted to have a wedding to celebrate with all of our family and friends, which was finally able to happen this year.
11. We Got to See Our Long Distance Friends
12. My Parents Bought a New House
13. We Got Tattoos We've Been Wanting for a Long Time
DJ had been wanting to cover up his first tattoo, and start on his sleeve, for forever. As an anniversary gift, I booked him with a local tattoo artist, where he was able to come up with a plan for his sleeve and get his arrow covered.
Before and after of DJ's cover up
I also got matching tattoos with my best friend that we have been talking about since high school, and a piece on my back I have been wanting since early college.
14. Blackbear Liked One of My Tweets
15. My Best Friend Got Married
My best friend and her now husband got married with a beautiful elopement ceremony in November. Not only were DJ and I lucky enough to be there, but DJ also officiated.

16. DJ Left a Toxic Work Environment
17. I Started a Medication That Shows Promise
18. My (other) Brother-in-Law Earned His Second-Degree Black Belt
19. My Father-in-Law Got a Job Closer to Home
20. DJ Got a PC
DJ has been wanting a PC for gaming since his went out of commission before we even met. As a gift for the wedding, DJ's groomsmen pooled together to get him a PC for him to play to his hearts desire.
21. I Got a New Job
Most recently I was able to get a job as an Account Coordinator at AssuredPartners, Inc. I am still learning the ropes of the position, but I look forward to the opportunity to learn the in's and out's of insurance world.
So thank you, 2021, for all the good things you have brought to me, my family, and my friends. I can't wait to see what 2022 has in store.
Until next year,
